I thought surely she couldn't be a real person - a photo that beautiful just seemed out of place on that obscure Chinese dating website. The developers must have grabbed a model's photo and created a fake profile to attract more users, I deduced. But what if she was real after all? The thought sent a jolt of electricity through me. I had to at least try and contact her...
If it was just a regular dating website that a scammer showed up on, that'd be one thing, but this was a Christian site! This guy sure had nerve trying to trick innocent girls like this - especially in such an obvious way: using some foreign guy's photo but himself using Chinese everywhere! I wasn't about to just let this slide - I'd reply and let him know, albeit indirectly, that at least this girl was on to his schemes...
Let's face it, magic happens at the airport. Walking off that plane into the freezing Beijing afternoon air was one of the most magical and surreal experiences I've ever had in my life. Not only had I traveled half the world, but I had waited half my life for the moment that was just moments away: I was about to meet the woman who I was sure would become my wife...
Life had taken some unexpected turns before, but this was a stop that had just never been on my map.
